The judicial decision against HDP Kocaeli Deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu was read in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, and his deputy was dismissed. On the same day, a lawsuit was filed by the Supreme Court of Appeals Prosecutor’s Office for the closure of the HDP.

During his duty, Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu submitted 24 legislative proposals, 2970 written parliamentary questions, and 15 research proposals. He gave speeches 116 times in the General Assembly and 83 times in the commissions.

The closure of HEP in 1993 was followed by the closure of DEP, ÖZDEP, HADEP, DEHAP, DTP, and BDP. In 2012 The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was established. Only five political parties were closed in the European countries since 1943, while 27 political parties were closed in Turkey, until today.

HDP had 6,058,489 (13.12%) votes in the June 2015 elections, won 80 seats in the parliament, and gained 2 ministries. In the last general elections, HDP won 67 deputies with 5,606,622 (11.7%) votes and became the third-largest party in the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

According to the report prepared by HDP, 16 deputies including 2 co-chairs, 17 co-mayors, 89 provincial co-chairs, 193 district co-chairs, and 5066 party members have been arrested since July 2015. All city municipalities that HDP won in the 2019 Local Elections are in government conservatorship.
